Dr. Iram Afaq
Dr. Iram Afaq, our charismatic leader, the esteemed Chancellor of Salim Habib University, and the Chief Executive Officer of The Salim Habib Education Foundation and Barrett Hodgson Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., was born in the bustling city of Karachi, Pakistan. She grew up with a dream of making a change in Pakistan, and seeing the dire state of literacy in the country, shaped her dream into a vision of educating Pakistan and brightening the future of its youth.
Guided by her passion to help people, she chose to obtain an education in medicine, and remained fully dedicated to doing all she could to help those in need. During her studies and her subsequent ventures into the corporate world of pharmaceutical, she ensured providing Quality Education to the youth of our country.
A postgraduate Medical Doctor with over 33 years of rich experience in industry and academia, she started her illustrious career.
Her journey continued in Glaxo Wellcome Pakistan as Head of the Medical Department, showcasing her expertise and leadership in the pharmaceutical sector. She later joined Barrett Hodgson Pakistan in the year 2000 as Business Development Director, which was a turning point for the pharmaceutical as her dynamic vision propelled the company to record growth. From 2004, she rose through the ranks, serving as Managing Director of Barrett Hodgson Pakistan, and subsequently as Deputy Chairman, and now serving as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Company.
In 2007, Dr. Iram Afaq, Dr. Muhammad Salim Habib and Mr. Tariq Amin, established The Salim Habib Education Foundation (TSHEF), a not-for-profit organization centered around the goal of giving back to the deprived Pakistani nation with quality education and health facilities.
Dr. Iram Afaq, through her exceptional work ethic, leadership skills, and her steadfast belief in her formula for success—Conceive it, Believe it, Achieve it (CBA)— as well as her guiding principles "Speed is the essence of business" and "Direction has to be right with a positive attitude," prioritized above all else her beloved nation and her goals of making the future of its youth brighter than anything, continuing to take great steps to ensure the provision of quality education and healthcare in Pakistan.
The Foundation runs Barrett Hodgson Pakistan, Salim Habib University, Fatima Business School and School & Colleges for both boys & girls in Toba Tek Singh.
Mr. Tariq M. Amin
Mr. Tariq M. Amin, our Founding Member, holds MA, LLB from University of Karachi. Later on, he had Post Graduate Diploma in Development Administration from University of Leeds, UK.
Government of France awarded him National Order of Merit with the grade of Chevalier (Knight).
He is Chairman of M/s. Orkila Pakistan, a leading multinational chemical company
Earlier, he has been working with various multinational companies in Senior Management positions. That included Philips as Personnel Manager, Wellcome Pakistan as Executive Director / Member Board and May & Baker as Chief Executive and Country General Manager.
Recently, he held positions of Member of Pay & Pensions Committee, Govt. of Pakistan, Public Accounts Committee, Sindh, Director of Karachi Stock Exchange, Director of Export Processing Zone, Director of Pakistan Gum & Chemicals and Chairman of the Audit Committee, President of Pakistan Youth Hostels Association Sindh, Director of Atlas Asset Management Company.
He is assisting the Citizens Foundation on Human Resource, Legal and Corporate matters in voluntary capacity.
He started his career in Civil Service of Pakistan and held positions of Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Deputy Secretary and Secretary to Governor.
Dr. Hasan Tharani
Dr. Hasan Tharani holds MBBS and MBA degrees.
He is currently serving as Director of TSHEF and Managing Director of Barrett Hodgson Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, Karachi, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing and marketing company of Pakistan. Earlier he was associated with Wellcome Pakistan Limited as a member of the Product Management / Marketing team.
He has been involved as an active contributor in Social Work, being an Honorary Member of Aga Khan Health Services and Aga Khan Welfare Board, Pakistan (Institutions of Aga Khan Development Network) for more than 15 years.
He is also a Member of the Board of Governors of Salim Habib University (SHU).
Mr. Muhammad Riazuddin
Mr. Muhammad Riazuddin is a Civil Servant of Secretariat Group BS-21 of Civil Services of Pakistan from the 22nd Common Training Program 1994. He also served as Senior Joint Secretary Expenditure/FA in the Finance Division, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad. Currently, he holds the position of Chief Executive Officer at Printing Corporation of Pakistan.
Dr. Muhammad Shuja Farrukh
Professor Dr. Muhammad Shuja Farrukh is a distinguished ENT Specialist with an impressive career spanning over three decades. Throughout his illustrious journey, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the medical field and made significant contributions to healthcare in Karachi. Professor Farrukh's career encompasses extensive service at the Civil Hospital Karachi and Dow University Hospital Karachi, reflecting his exceptional expertise and leadership. His notable accomplishments include serving as the Medical Superintendent of Dow University Hospital Karachi, where he oversaw critical healthcare operations, and his current role as the Head of the ENT Department, Principal of the School of Post Graduate Studies, and a respected Member of the Institutional Syndicate and Advisor of the Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences.
His new responsibility is Professor and Head, Department of ENT-Head & Neck Surgery, Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) Karachi.
